                                                                                                                                                            • -

Talk Session "Information and Drawing―Current Position of Diluted Bodies"

TOO MUCH Magazineの主催するレクチャーシリーズ「Romantic Geography」。

Updates: "Street Art and Globalization" at Vacant, Collaboration Mural with Swoon in Ofunato City +α

It has been long since last update; I left New York on 13th April and stayed in Italy for a while, and then got back to Tokyo on 20th April. I know it's a cliché, but now I feel Tokyo is really a convenient city to live. Super-organized infrastructure, high quality food and service with low expense. Once you get used to this, you might feel it's hard to live abroad, however, of course there is also a fascinating things that New York does have but Tokyo does not. It is difficult to describe in words though.

Well I've already done some projects within a month after getting back to Tokyo.

                                                                                                                                                            • -

"Street Art and Globalization" 「

I gave a lecture entitled "Street Art and Globalization" at Vacant, Harajuku, on 22th April. It was a part of an event "Romantic Geography" and there was another lecturer, Yoshikazu Nango, who gave a deep lecture on Dutch architect Constant Nieuwenhuys. Thank you for all who those attended.

                                                                                                                                                            • -

Collaboration Mural with Swoon

Oyama Enrico Isamu Letter × Swoon. Ofunato City, Iwate Prefecture, Japan. 2012. Photo by Oyama Enrico Isamu Letter
I created a mural in Ofunato City, Iwate prefecture, where was extremely destroyed by tsunami disaster on 3.11 last year. It was collaboration with New York-based artist Swoon, and was a part of an art project "Kesen Transplant". The entire project was mainly directed by Japanese artist, Kosuke Ikeda, and many other independent artists have participated in their own way. The idea of project was to create a lodge made of rubble from 3.11 tsunami disaster, and to make it work as a self-generating power plant, by equipping it with solar panel generating system. This lodge is called "Kesen Art-Power Plant". The electricity this lodge generated was provided to another small temporary lodge next to it called "Sticking House" where local people and artist gathered and communicated. I and Swoon created mural on the wall of "Kesen Art-Power Plant".

                                                                                                                                                            • -

Skylight Gallery, NYC / February 23 Thu – March 30 Fri, 2012

An international exhibit of varying media from Japan, Germany, Korea, Australia, the United States, Czech Republic, Cayman Islands, Estonia, Japan, Switzerland and Belgium, Still Spot is a group show of thirteen artists, who offer works that are quiet at first look, but upon closer inspection will reveal intensity of either technique, material, or affect. These diverse practices include labor-intensive precise cuts in paper, hundreds of magazine eyes behind a translucent vellum veil, rock-hard slate that has been filed down meticulously against its nature, and tiny five-inch square drawings that are so intricate that they are at the very limits of our ability to see. At the other extreme is a room-size installation where we stand in the midst of hundreds of nine-foot high skinny strips of paper, so we become lost in the white quietude. This totality of works is assembled to bring the gallery visitor into a “still spot” in the midst of dynamic Manhattan, a momentary oasis in the center of our busy lives.

Fascinating Mural Tour in East Harlem.

On Sunday, which was the day right after heavy snow, me and my friend hung out together to see local murals in Harlem. We met up at 86th and Lexington and walked up to East Harlem. Was amazingly cold day!

                                                                                                                                                              • -

Old School Keith Haring! This is what we could see at the end.

Thank you my friend Marquis a.k.a. The Harlem Ambassador (right)! He took me out to this fascinating tour. Also big up to his local and global project "Greater Harlem 411 (http://greaterharlem411.com/)" to activate the area and make it connected to the world.
