Updates: "Street Art and Globalization" at Vacant, Collaboration Mural with Swoon in Ofunato City +α

久しぶりの更新です。4月13日にニューヨークを出て、数日イタリアの田舎に滞在し、4月20日に東京に戻りました。月並みな物言いになりますが、やはり東京は住みやすい街です。整備されたあらゆるインフラ。低価格で質の高い飲食やサービス。これに慣れてしまうと、海外での暮らしは不便でたまらないように感じてしまいがちですが、もちろんたとえば、東京にはなくてニューヨークにはある魅力というのもあります。それを言葉にするのもなんだか難しいのですけれど。It has been long since last update; I left New York on 13th April and stayed in Italy for a while, and then got back to Tokyo on 20th April. I know it's a cliché, but now I feel Tokyo is really a convenient city to live. Super-organized infrastructure, high quality food and service with low expense. Once you get used to this, you might feel it's hard to live abroad, however, of course there is also a fascinating things that New York does have but Tokyo does not. It is difficult to describe in words though.

さて、日本に戻ってからこれまでの約一ヶ月、いくつか仕事をしたのでここで紹介します。Well I've already done some projects within a month after getting back to Tokyo.

"Street Art and Globalization"　「ストリートアートとグローバリゼーション」


４月22日に原宿VACANTにて「ストリートアートとグローバリゼーション」と題してレクチャーを行ないました。Romantic Geographyというイベントで、もうひとりの登壇者は南後由和さん。南後さんはコンスタント・ニューヴェンホイスという、シチュアシオニストと関係の深かった建築家についてレクチャしていました。お越し頂いた皆さまありがとうございます。I gave a lecture entitled "Street Art and Globalization" at Vacant, Harajuku, on 22th April. It was a part of an event "Romantic Geography" and there was another lecturer, Yoshikazu Nango, who gave a deep lecture on Dutch architect Constant Nieuwenhuys. Thank you for all who those attended.

Collaboration Mural with Swoon　スウーンとのコラボレーション壁画

岩手県大船渡市で行なわれたアートプロジェクト「ケセン・トランスプラント」にて壁画を制作しました。ニューヨーク在住で、世界的にも評価の高いストリートアーティスト、スウーンとのコラボレーションです。プロジェクト自体は美術家の池田剛介さんのディレクションのもと、複数のアーティストがざまざまな立場から関わった複合的なもの。基本的なコンセプトとしては、被災地のがれきを使用して高さ4メートルほどの小屋をつくり、その背面にソーラーパネルを設置して自家発電で電力を生み出します。この小屋は「気仙芸術発電所」です。その電力は、隣に設置されたもうひとつの小屋「くっつきハウス」に供給され、そこは被災者の方を含む地元の人びとやイベントに訪れた観客、アーティストらがコミュニケーションをとる場になります。僕は「気仙芸術発電所」の壁面にスウーンと壁画を描いたというかたちになります。I created a mural in Ofunato City, Iwate prefecture, where was extremely destroyed by tsunami disaster on 3.11 last year. It was collaboration with New York-based artist Swoon, and was a part of an art project "Kesen Transplant". The entire project was mainly directed by Japanese artist, Kosuke Ikeda, and many other independent artists have participated in their own way. The idea of project was to create a lodge made of rubble from 3.11 tsunami disaster, and to make it work as a self-generating power plant, by equipping it with solar panel generating system. This lodge is called "Kesen Art-Power Plant". The electricity this lodge generated was provided to another small temporary lodge next to it called "Sticking House" where local people and artist gathered and communicated. I and Swoon created mural on the wall of "Kesen Art-Power Plant".

大船渡でもコラボレーション壁画を制作したスウーンについて、CBC-NETにエッセイ「ストリートアーティスト・スウーン」を寄稿しました。東京での初個展「Honeycomb」や大船渡でのプロジェクトにも言及しています。My essay on Swoon, "Street Artist: Swoon" is released now on CBC-NET. I mentioned her first solo show in Tokyo "Honeycomb" and the collaboration project in Ofunato City as well in the essay.

Live-Painting with YUMANIZUMU　ユマニズムとのライブ・ペインティング

ペインターのユマニズムさんとコラボレーションでライブ・ペインティングをしました。約4時間でふたりで描きあげるというもの。ユマニズムさんとは初めての共同制作でしたが、刺激的でした。ありがとうございました！Collaboration live-painting performance with Japanese painter, YUMANIZUMU. This was totally improvisational and we painted this within four hours. It was first time to paint with him and it was a lot of fun. Thank you for sharing your passion!
